Default Lancashire Fusiliers Busby badge

I picked up the attached badge at the weekend. I looked in K&K and i was convinced it was No. 930 - the racoon skin cap badge. However, I have been given cause to think different. The lugs are short so I doubt it would fit through any kind of hide. But it's too big for a collar badge and the sphinx is the right way up. Wonder what the forum members think.

Without meaning to contradict Simon, I’m pretty sure the Glengarry badge has a different style of flame above the grenade (as per the photo in the link below).

Andy, Think the badges in your link are later. A friend has pointed out to me that the Lancs Fus didn't come into existence until 1881 and that is why it doesn't have the strap. Regards, Mike

Its a while now since I sold my LF collection but I recall having an identical badge to the one in the opening post on loops and aslo an identical one but on a long vertical pin which I assumed was for the FS Helmet. The point I make is that there are a wide variety of 'Grenade' style badges worn by the LF's particulary in the VB's.

You are not contradicting me as the badge you link to is the ubiquitous style of O/R's glengarry found in all the Fusilier Regiments, but it was far from being the only style worn.

The LF's had a lot of peculiar badges, the strangest I ever had was a one piece gilding metal 4 tier shoulder title, T/4/grenade/LF. Figure that one out??

regards

I hadn't considered that, Chay, and it certainly makes sense.

It seems as though the LF is a regiment that has considerably more variation than I first thought (and I don't know why I find that surprising, as it seems that most regiments have much more variation than I initially thought possible).

In terms of the T4 title, Simon, I never realised that the special reserve battalions used the same T as the territorial force, and always presumed that they wore the same shoulder titles as the regulars. As they say, every day is a school day.

Andy,

The 2 reserve battalions DIDNT wear a Territorial 'T' title, thats the anomoly.

Its a Territorial Title for a TF Bn that never existed.

I cant say about the LF's but in my particular Regiment of interest, the Manchester Regiment the Special Reserve and Extra Reserve Battalions actually wore a Bn numeral in gilding metal separately above the curved gilding metal shoulder title.

regards
