From memory the 7th DG is the only badge I can remember with a Tiptaft branded slider. I've had a couple but don't have any longer so nothing at hand to compare. It could be the light/flash but this really doesn't look up to scratch.

I'll have a look at the makers mark to see if the branding differs, I'm sure the only Tiptaft example there will be from the 7th DG.

Edit: the sliders are generally really long too.

Edit: Surprising no Tiptaft MM to this badge in the forum catalogue

Edit: There are threads elsewhere, I remember one which had a slider and tell tell tale braise for loops so probably around the 1906 change for fittings.

Thanks for your comments. I was wondering if perhaps this may be a fake mark? There was a thread along those lines.

It’s a good one, just a near mint example not showing its age.

From the correct die. Spacing of the mark looks correct. I’ve never thought the Tiptaft made ones to have particularly long sliders.

The quality plus slider shape/length isn’t what you’d expect of an Edwardian badge and I’ve often wondered if they’re actually WW1 era using the wrong pattern.

Some other examples here to put your mind at ease…

Thread showing fake marks inc. Tiptaft…

If you don’t want it I’ll have it.

You tease John! I should’ve said it was a nasty fake

Now you just need to look out for Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, RA, Devonshire Regt, Warwickshire Yeomanry and 1916 all GM North Staffs (off top of my head). The latter two have an oval mark.

They also made and marked quite a lot of colonial badges, especially Canadian. The double marked Australian Rising Sun is particularly sought after.

A nice badge, enjoy.
