The listing first appeared in April 2021 and so far 21 have been sold , don't know if it would be marked on back as a "copy".

I wasn't aware that they'd been on the market for a couple of decades, bad copies or not, buyers fault or not for buying them as genuine further along the collecting food chain,it's always good to get a heads up.

The originals are silver aren't they, the ebay offering looks not to be?
We're originals produced plated or in white metal?

Found this :
Quote:
The most important distinction given to the Royal Naval Patrol Service was an exclusive silver badge. Officers and men of the Patrol Service were awarded this badge after a total of six months service at sea. It could also be awarded beforehand to those showing worthy conduct while engaged in action

Interesting, I didn't know about the private purchase version.
I have one of the sew on type (given to me by a workmate who found it on the beach at Yarmouth or Lowestoft when he was a kid around the 1980's, can't remember off hand) and one of the pin back version, both silver.
The sew on has had the serial number covered with a blob of solder.

Holyboy
Many thanks
Reproduction items have no place in my collection I also find this an anomaly that I find baffling to.

This item will confuse many hence flagging it up!

Good hunting all.

Stephen

Yes, it's always struck me as odd that the purveyors of crap are tolerated on this forum. It appears that if a crap merchant states that the worthless garbage they sell is repro then thats ok but, in reality, it's not ok at all. It's what happens further down the line when the junk re-emerges as the "genuine" article and some hapless novice collector gets shafted, that's what pees me off.
