Hi Steve,

Take a look at the Gurkha web page here:

http://picasaweb.google.com/hagwalth...ey=IYzbLYf7NCg

For the 7th Duke Of Edinburghs Own we have three badges. One is void so not really to do with us here leaving two others which are non void.

One has a gold crown and gold lettering on a silver background and one is all silver.

Is the all silver one a mistake that has missed the gold colour to the crown and lettering?

OR

Is the gold coloured one in error?

OR

Are both valid issue?

Regards

Chris

I believe Cambridge Univ OTC Arty Section may also have worn both the full size as well as the beret badge in wm. Also the unit are thought to have worn wm collars in OR and Offr sizes.
Hi Revdougal - seems like a silver Queens Crown Royal Artillery badge is quite valid and as such could well have been produced in anodised aluminium.

Many Thanks for your input here.

Chris

Hi Steve,

Any chance of a photo of the black badge for the Gurkha web page?

Hi Chris,
The 7th gold crown etc is not issue, all badges are silver/WM, could it be just the way the metal has tarnished or someone has made an attempt to tart up the badge. I'm manning a stand for the gurkha welfare trust all day tomorrow so I will take a picture of the black version Thursday.

regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

Looks like my silver and gold version is a mistake or, as you say, messed with for some reason. Yes, let me have a photo of the black version if you can - do you know how many were issued as this would make a nice footnote if I go to publication.

Also, can you check out the Gurkha web page and see if it is missing any anodised aluminium items.

Many Thanks.

Regards

Chris

Thanks Steve,

Have added it to the web page.

Do you know what the maker mark on the back says?

Looks like FIRMIN LONDON in two lines but can't be sure.

Hi Guys,

I'm now going to go through this list of badges previously shown in posting #1, five badges at a time probably releasing another five every week for further clarification.

Note that these badges actually and physically exist (I own most of them) - the question is though should they be classified as correct issue or are they factory mistakes or unfinished factory items.

If anyone knows if they are valid and correct them please let me know here or via PM as I intend to write the badges listed here in a mistakes chapter of an anodised aluminium cap badge book unless otherwise informed.

Here are this weeks:

1) 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards (All Gold)
2) Royal Hussars (All Gold)
3) 14th/20th Kings Hussars (All Silver)
4) 15th/19th The Kings Royal Hussars (All Gold)
5) Royal Tank Regiment (All Gold)

Regards

Chris

Chris,

I think that they are all factory errors. I presume most of them are LB&B made?

Hi Alan,

Yes all errors in my opinion too but will give it a week or so to see if there are any other opinions.

Badges by a variety of makers which is a point I will make later.

Chris

Hi Guys,

Friday night here so here are the next five I want you all to have a think about. I believe all to be mistakes or unfinished items (especially in the case of the gold and black Yorkshire Brigade) but please PUT ME RIGHT if they are correctly finished items.

This weekend badges are:

Cheshire Regiment (All Gold)
Duke Of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment (All Gold)
Royal Scots (All Gold)
Foresters Brigade (All Silver)
Yorkshire Brigade (Silver And Black)

Regards

Chris
