Default Firmin - Unseen Makers Marks.

Is this new?

Just noticed this Firmin makers mark on an anodised RE badge! The standard FIRMIN but flanked by diamonds and on both slider and rear of badge, first time I've seen one with the diamonds?

The badge looks OK although the crown appears to have haunched shoulders?

Did you have to post this, just as Chris was getting on so well with his aa badge book?

He was on-line!

Not sure if the delay is dread or just looking for data?

Have you seen this style of MM before?

Andy

It's the new(ish) Firmin MM. I have it on a few badges, an anodised REME, an Irish Guards Officer's cap badge (packaging was dated 12/2010) and a Large Coldstream Guards Officer's cap star (packaging dated 05/2012).

Hi Guys,

Marc has just pointed this out to me.

Not seen this mark before so will have to get an example of the badge - Andy, do you have a spare? Packaging information is also important - do you have one in original packaging?

Odd in that I'm quite surprised in that they were still making A/A badges with the trend to the 'New Metal' variant.

Slider looks like the last type used by Firmin too.

I can still add to the book if I can get an example soon.

Regards

Chris

Chris,

While the new design Inf and Cav regts have gone over to improved metal, the older Corps are mostly still wearing a/a badges and no chnages have been made to move to improved metal as yet.

OK - Thanks Alan.

Any idea when the full change will be made?

Regards

Chris

Chris,

The changes are coming when new badge designs are made. The infantry have nealry all had amalgamations in the last 10 years. The Cavalry the same. The 9/12 Lancers are soon to go and they are one of the lasy Cav regts to retain /a badge sand that is only for caps and not berets. Otherwise the majority of Corps units are staying with a/a. The RLC had a new badge for their 10 year anniversary but that was the exception.

Thanks Alan,

Looks like some A/A badges may continue to be made for some time yet then. I would not expect any new designs though.

Regards

Chris

Paddy

Can you please post a pic of the other side of the Coldstream Officers badge? Is it made of AA or another type of metal?

Cheers
Jim

Jim

This is not A/A, it is the current issue Sterling Silver & Enamel officer's cap badge. A few more pictures attached below including one in the original packaging for Chris if it is of any use.
