Default Wiltshire/Royal Militia

As many of the experianced collectors are aware it is quite difficult to follow the linage of militia units as they were regularly reranked through out their embodiment I knew that The Wiltshire militia among many of its changes in order of precedence was numbered 33rd in 1833 I recently purchased a waist belt clasp no 33 with Wiltshire militia scroll at Yate fair from a fellow collector ,I must admit that I did not examine it throughly This would date it as pre 1841 as the title Royal was granted this year .On discussion with a very very experienced collector and dealer [ Mr T ] at Yate military fair He said that he thought that it was a made up item ,both parts being period pieces the ,which I would now agree with The colour match on both parts being very good
The 33rd element being the west Riding/ Duke of Wellington regiment The actual centre for clasp the being a crown The only other item that I have without the Royal is a forage cap maker Natting London I was still happy with the price paid as the Wiltshire part is a rare item
Measurements of the part where belt is fitted is 55mm x8 mm on both parts
Anybody interested photo in gallery and my Wiltshire album

I dont know enough on this but it looks as if the male part fits a smaller diameter female part.
The two Militia helmet plates are stunning David.
