Default 2 SBS

Collectors of British SF badges will be all too aware that the enamelled badge designed by Maj Roger Courtney for 2 SBS comes into the category of "virtually unobtainable". My informant who served as an officer in 2 SBS told me that the badge was Maj Courtney's personal initiative and quite unofficial. The strength of the unit at the time was c 25 so he had about 50 made up. Two were issued to each member, on the assumption that the man would keep one and the other would be given to parents, wife or girlfriend. It was up to the individual if he chose to wear it or retain his regimental badge, and wear the 2 SBS badge for special occasions such as leave, weddings or photographs.
The badge below is clearly a reproduction, but may appeal to some collectors as a space filler. It measures 41 x 27 mm. I had some made up in 1990 and most went to former members of the unit as a souvenir. If anyone is interested please PM me.

Apologies in advance for the quality of this image - it's a copy of a copy etc that I have had for decades. It is posted in the hope that a Forum member may have a better quality print. At least four of the members of 2 SBS present, including Maj Roger Courtney, centre, in SD and Sam Browne, are wearing the enamel badge. I have been told that - to his right are: Hawkins, Wheeler, Roberts, Harrod, Sidlow, Swain and Sailsbury. To his left are: Burns, Hutchinson, Austin, Sains, Lovell, Unidentified, McKenzie. I have not researched these men - ranks and parent regiments are not know to me.
