Medical Transport: Hospital Ship...
A ward on No 22 Hospital Carrier, formerly the cross channel boat ISLE OF THANET, at Dieppe. A matron with her orderly is going around the patients in their specially fitted cots.

Not particualy a Matron, but more likely a QAINS Nursing Sister (All QAIMNS/QAINS nurses were officers in WWI & II) A Matron on rounds would be accompanied by a sister or Nurse not a medical orderly.

And apparently the senior Sister (whether by rank or custom) was sometimes referred to as Matron. http://www.qaranc.co.uk/qa_world_war_two_nursing.php Quote:
While this war establishment is dated a few years past the time of the photo, it is probably similar to what would have been on ISLE OF THANET. http://www.ww2f.com/truxmodels.co.uk/page59.html Quote:

I know this is an old thread, but thought I would add some clarification ot the QA in the picture. She is a Reserve Nurse as indicated by her tippet. I do not see the "T" in the corners which would indicate she was a TAN.
I would be guessing if I said QA Reserves were also all officers as I don't know that for sure. Terry |
