Scottish & North Irish Yeomanry presented Regimental Guidon.
Scottish & North Irish Yeomanry presented Regimental Guidon.
Soldiers from the Scottish & North Irish Yeomanry (SNIY) paraded over the weekend at Redford Barracks to receive their first Regimental Guidon (Standard) from Counsellor Frank Ross,The Lord Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh. The SNIY is the Army’s newest combat regiment. It may have only entered the Army’s order of battle in 2014, but the regiment’s predecessors have a proud history that stretches back hundreds of years. In Jul 2014 under Army Reserves 2020, The SNIY, a Reserve Light Cavalry Unit, was formed with 3 of the existing Squadrons (A, B and C) from The Queens Own Yeomanry, with a new E (Lothian and Borders Yeomanry) Squadron, and a Regimental Headquarters, both based in Edinburgh. As a light cavalry regiment, the SNIY uses light armoured vehicles such as the RWMIK Land Rover to get around, although it soldiers are just as effective when operating on foot. Their reconnaissance role requires them to work far ahead of other friendly forces, gathering intelligence on the enemy and the local environment. They then send this information back to commanders, who use it to make important tactical decisions. The SNIY is paired with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Together they train and serve on important operations all over the world. Source: The Army in Scotland Facebook Page
