Default French RF button.

Hello all,

I would be grateful for an identification on this large 29mm diameter button.
I assume the RF stands for Republique Francais but don't know who wore it? The backmark is LA BELLE JARDINIERE PARIS which according to Google were making buttons from 1885-1923.

Thanks,

David.

Your button is listed in Louis Fallou's book "Le Bouton uniforme Français" on page 315 as a livery button: "De la Présidence de la République". Introduced 1914.

At this address:

Palais de l'Élysée
55 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré
75008 Paris
