Liverpool Irish boss badge worn by NCO`s
Cant be sure but the Liverpool Irish NCO in this E bay item, may be wearing the boss badge in his cap as worn by the officers of the battalion:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-1st-...53.m1438.l2649 If he is it might explain why man in the attached picture is also wearing a boss badge, perhaps a sergeant who had ( for whatever reason ) reverted to Private, Boss badges worn by Sergeants and senior NCO`s as well as by officers ? Any thoughts appreciated. P.B.

Could it be insignia taken from a rifles cap to wear in lieu of a cap badge due to shortage of the latter?

Leigh,
It could be but the badge in the attached photo looks very much like the Liverpool Irish officers boss badge. Peter

Boss badge
Might this man be wearing the Training Reserve headdress badge of a GS button with a red cloth backing? This would be logical for an Other Rank.

PB,
Is there any chance the shoulder title may give further information? Rob |

Thanks Stephen and Rob,
I think other than wearing boss badges, the soldiers are wearing the other insignia you would expect. Peter
