Only an opinion David. Not collecting specifically to the regiment I'm sure you have seen more than myself but I still think it a makers variation- the void being more of a rectangle than the usual small void which I would say, like you, is a fake. I have also seen the small rectangular void type with a slider.
I wonder what you think of a version with a medium size void with a small fault at 8 o'clock on the left arm of cross (as viewed)? This variation has a slightly tapered slider with crimp.
Has your research into Wiltshire badges given you an idea of number of manufacturers and numbers produced? Regards, Paul
