Yes - I was the buyer.
It was auctioned with about 12 other lots to the same chap, of which I got about 7 - what they do not say is that the badge had paperwork and photos with it, tying together all the other lots attributed to the guy (CSM / Capt G Barnes MM & Bar). It is estimated only about 50 examples of the badge would have been made, so it is particularly rare, especially in attributed mint condition. Probably only a specialist collector would seek one.
I did here a 1er Fusilier Marine Commando badge had sold for £9,000 some time ago but again with great attribution.
It is becoming necessary to be very selective. That said, I do know the price of other examples of the rare expensive 2 SBS badge did rise significantly when the new price was set. They rarely come to market, let alone with attribution. This is the trend with high end badges - but we all hope to find them at more affordable prices, and bargains are still out there.
