Hi Leigh
Your badge is very similar to the oak wreath part of a WW2 period German Army General's gilt visor cap cockade and wreath. The cockade would normally be fixed in the centre of the wreath with prongs. Ranks of the Heer (Army) below that rank had silver versions of the badge.
Also it could be a version of an NSDAP political leader's visor cap cockade and wreath. This was also gilt washed and would have had an eagle above the wreath and cockade.

Assmann was a bona fide maker of Third Reich insignia for the period generally.
