I've got German buttons and other bits. Some time ago I was asked if I could help with some research on a couple of German items in a local collection, including a dog tag. Having only recently found that there is a fairly comprehensive website for basic searches, I had a look.
The current owner was puzzled about a small nick out of the edge of this tag, as I was. A quick search showed that there was an obvious, if tragic, reason for this damage...
My question about the item was to which unit it belonged and what period it dates from. I've tentatively attributed it to the 16e Regiment d'Infanterie but I would like to hear from one of our French members.
I've lived in France and my parents both have taught French for many years, so we'll see if my next post gets a response from them!
