Just had a revelation with this famous Battle...... XX Corps advance on Beersheba saw the 74th (Yeomanry) Division in the middle of the advance. On the Divisions right flank was the 25th (Montgomery & Welsh Horse Yeomanry) Battalion RWF and the 24th (Denbighshire Hussars Yeomanry) Battalion RWF, with the 24th (Pembroke and Glamorgan Yeomanry) Battalion The Welsh, in reserve.

The 24th (Denbighshire Hussars Yeomanry) Battalion RWF started at the "Surrey Wadi" and alone took 27 men killed in action on that day (x23 Fusiliers and x4 DHY.... one of the DHY died of wounds a week later). The 25th Btn RWF had as many killed as well.

They were facing the 27th Division (Turks) that composed of the 81st Infantry Regiment and the 67th Infantry Regiment.

If your interested in all aspects of the battle then read this bit on the 24 & 25th Btns RWF..... a VC was won in the 25th Btn on this day http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/fo...owtopic=138235
