1st Australian Remount Unit WW1. They called them the "Rough Riders". There is plenty of information about the unit if you google.
This badge was most likely manufactured by local craftsmen in either Egypt or Palestine during WW1. These badges were worn and as such "trench art" is a description I would not use.
I wouldnt hazard a guess at value, but its is worth a lot. Mick is the man to ask as he may of seen another sell at auction........assuming one has ever sold at auction!
