Default CANSOFCOM

Those were very informative documents and from what I am reading informs me that in the order of precedence for Commands for the CF, CANSOFCOM does indeed fall after Land Force Command. The trouble is that that this document is out of date as Canada Command, Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command and Canadian Operational Support Command were all stood down in June 2012 and were merged into Canadian Joint Operations Command. As well in August 2011, Land Force Command reverted to the pre-1968 title of the Canadian Army. So what is required is a more recent document that takes into consideration the name changes and confirms CANSOFCOM's present position within the order of precedence.

In the CFP 2000 document the precedence list for CANSOFCOM units was nicely laid out as:JTF2, CSOR, 427 Sqn and CFJNBCDC.

I have made contact with CANSOFCOM in order to get an answer on some of the precedence and dress questions and this is what I have been provided concerning their new uniform.

-As for the issuance of the SOF DEU, it is only issued to CANSOFCOM operators but those encompass more than just the SOF operators with CSOR. You may also be aware that, the Distinctive Environmental Uniform (DEU) is part of a wider effort to assign unique dress to CANSOFCOM and is part of a series of measures to visibly identify the CommandÂ’s distinct nature within the Canadian Armed Forces. The change from CADPAT to MultiCam is just one of those efforts and the DEU is the last of the clothing initiatives which is in the developmental stage with uniform and accoutrements continuing to be refined.-

I take this to read that the uniform will be for all of those employed with CANSOFCOM.

I also asked about badges and received this. -The cap badge has the traditional outer area used in CAF cap badges that consists of the crown, oak leaves and a scroll that was developed in conjunction with the Canadian Heraldic Authority. CANSOFCOM choose the wording in the scroll “COMMISSA UT VIAM INVENIAT”, which means COMMITTED TO FINDING A WAY, and the inner ring consisting of the black circle around a V-42 dagger. The cap badge was recently approved by the Governor General of Canada and is now the official cap badge for CANSOFCOM operators.

The crossed arrows is one of the distinctive insignia on the CANSOFCOM DEU and is a direct link to the same insignia worn by the First Special Service Force.

The FSSF Arrowhead is the last of the distinctive insignia on the CANSOFCOM DEU and is again a direct link to the same patch worn by the FSSF.-

So CANSOFCOM now has a cap badge worn by all members of the command that replaces their Element, Branch, Corps or Regimental badges. Crossed Arrows is the collar badge and the red FSSF Arrowhead (minus the CANADA USA) is the shoulder badge.

With respect to the boots, they are similar to the black post-WWII US Army Paratroop Boots and are higher and are a different design from the black SSF boots worn by during the 1970s-1990s.
