Some more info about this badge.

'Nomina Desertis Inscripsimus' means 'In the desert we have written our names' and was the motto supposedly suggested by Harry Chauvel (later General Sir Henry George Chauvel, GCMG, KCB (Commanding General of the Desert Mounted Corps).

The Date Palm in the centre of the badge was also the Tactical Sign for the Desert Mounted Corps that Harry commanded.

He grew up in Northern NSW and joined the forerunner to the NSW Lancers before going over the border to serve in the QMI.
