Question White metal Cambridgeshire cap badge

This badge is one that puzzles me, mentioned in K&K Volume 2 (Fig.1817) and sealed 24 October 1952. Exactly the same as the normal bi-metal cap badge except it is all white metal, why was it produced?

Had they run short of gilding metal title scrolls?

Were they a cheaper option as there was no extra work to do adding the G/M scroll?

This one is in un-issued condition, my guess is that Cambridgeshire TA probably never wore them in any quantity and probably wore the bi-metal badge while stocks lasted until the amalgamation with the 4th Btn Suffolk Regt to form the Suffolk and Cambs Regt.

Any ideas welcome.
