Mike, You are right about establishing exactly what was worn, and when. Even when the printed titles were issue, many regiments were using up embroidered, or acquiring embroidered ones for walking out bd. Photos are some of the best information. Museums are okay, but depending on the curator, can be authoritative sources for research, or can completely misinform.
