In Nigel West's book "The Secret War for the Falklands" he describes the moment the recon mission of the SAS on the Argentine mainland was aborted and the SAS reverted to the fallback position of returning to neutral territory - it had entirely "depended on surprise, and his (sic Capt M ) principal task was to avoid discovery and maintain a covert hide from which the Rio Grande base could be kept under surveillance. The prospect of being chased across the pampas by well armed Argentine troops was not part of the plan and the merest hint of a raid could transform a brilliant coup de main into a costly fiasco. Accordingly (sic believing the mission compromised) Capt M, shook his head and called out to the two NCO's already on the ground, "I'm sorry lads it's Chile after all " Uncomprehending, Gywynne E, made the memorable reply: "Chilly! It's f**king freezing !"
