Hugh,
Ah yes, the current can o' worms.
Depending on which rumour mill you subscribe to, there is either a badge in the works (based on either the JTF-2, SSF, SAS, etc. ad nauseum) or no badge planned. DND has supposedly been looking at a few badge proposals but the last I heard, the tan beret would be the only unit identifier, with all pers wearing regimental/branch badges. One of the stumbling blocks is: if there is going to be a CSOR badge, will it only be worn by Cat. 1 (Operators and Specialists) with Cat.2 Support Pers wearing their respective unit badges? Or will both OPS and SUP wear the same badge?
If CSOR goes the same route as JTF-2 regarding badges (in my opinion, the sensible one), there would be no CSOR unit insignia worn in any order of dress. For those who are not familiar with JTF-2 insignia, there is NO JTF-2 cap badge, beret badge, shoulder title, ops wing etc. There is only one genuine article of insignia, the Assaulter's Badge, and that is worn only on the DEU jacket, only after the member has remustered out of the unit after his/her tour.
CANSOFCOM includes JTF-2; CSOR; 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron; and the Joint Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Coy.
