Default WW1 Cap Ribbons

Lovely items! Thanks very much for showing them.

Gold wire tallies weren't the only ones used during WW1. On 21st February 1918 AWO 662/18 introduced yellow silk lettering on cap tallies as a wartime economy to conserve stocks of gold wire used in the lettering of tallies.

The use of yellow silk lettering was quite short-lived as AWO 2665/19 of 6th August 1919 reintroduced gold wire lettering, with the stipulation that silk lettered tallies should continue to be used until worn out and service stocks used-up.

So it's quite possible that what you have is actually one of the shortlived wartime economy tallies.

I'd certainly be interested in seeing some images of the uniforms! Do I still need to PM you to say that now that I've just told you?

Pete
