Completely agree Leigh. All comes down to personal choice a bit like ‘cleaning’ preferences.
My aim in most cases is to leave things be and buy non-broken, but, with a special piece like this where you’ll not find another my own opinion is it’s worth considering especially with fixings as they assists display.
But I do definitely see and respect your point of view. Some people do carry on with ‘restoring’ to the point of Trigger’s broom.
