Personal choice, if such a badge is repaired and refinished then to me it's been unecessarily messed around with, lost authenticity and value.
I'd rather have a badge repaired with a blob of solder and keeping it's original finish.
Imperceptible refinishes and repairs are to me a bit too close to imperceptible fakes and repros.
Which doesn't mean that people can't do what they like with their property, I see the attraction in prettifying these things.
