Completely agree that any collector can spend their money on whatever they like. I've been guilty, many times, of spending far too much on a wing and haven't regretted any of these purchases. That said, every member is free to comment on any sum spent and discuss the merits of the purchase. This is how we learn more about a piece and regarding the case in question try and determine what is special about it and why it commanded such a high price.

As to the wing that started this thread, I too believe one of the higher bidders must have some inside knowledge, most likely a photo, of the wing being worn by an SOE operative or similar type of specialist. Without this inside knowledge it seems like an extreme amount to the un-educated, myself included, and hopefully someone will find out what Unit the wing relates to and let us all know so we can all learn.

In summary, after reading the replies I don't believe it was two collectors putting crazy bids in at the same time, but that it's a wing to a special unit and two collectors had the knowledge and wanted it enough to spend a lot of money.
