This RHA Cypher is one of the earliest, although not necessarily an officer’s, made by Firmin for GvR Jubilee for E Bty in India. The same was used for EviiiR and GviR: all with a long slider.
However the same GviR cypher but with lugs, continued to be made by Firmin with the solid back, although the issue cypher was in die struck brass.E Bty returned from India in 1938 to U.K. But some RHA Regiments preferred the wm version at private expense, until eventually all wore this version. Later the officer version had a fretted look. I have some 17 versions of the cypher, I think, from GvR to the present day.
