From memory, badges on facing colour were forbidden after about 1870, thereafter scarlet-clad troops had scarlet backed badges, with the exception of Household troops, and blue clad had blue backings, again excepting Household troops.
This was sometimes flouted, especially by cavalry. As above.
Does anyone know if/when facing backing was officially reintroduced please?
