As discussed. The R.Welsh appear to have reverted back to the green square as the RRW had, so potentially the shaped backing was a transition arrangement for OR's whilst waiting for the proper cap badge?
It would appear however that officers bullion beret badges do utilise a shaped green backing. Possibly WO's too?
