Bill, you are correct as referenced in section 12. This applies to any units no longer active or non existent. As for units that are currently active, the unit owns the rights to their badge, such as the PPCLI for example. I have spent the last 2 days researching and speaking with Intellectual Property advisors of the Directorate Materiel Policy & Procedures DMPP 8 to be sure that i understand this correctly.

As for the CEF images, the ones that are not in existence and over 50 years old, they would indeed be public domain now. I’m glad to have this confirmed as I have an idea involving the CEF GL Badge.

Not sure if you are aware, but I was very blessed to be involved with the PPCLI’s Century of Service last year and at their request, made 3 unique plates available to commemorate this special occasion. One of the plates featured their Marguerite Cap Badge. I’ll see if I can figure out how to post a photo here.
