Hi Frank,

This might be the case with this example, thought to be pre 1900 version, marked S.Sil and mounted on a post WWII SD cap.

Hopefully this is not too far from the original purpose of this thread and I can add that the Gaunt marked Silver & Gilt cap badge I own is marked with P for plated.
