I have him as Captain/Adjutant to the RCHA,in the first Canadian contingent to the UK.

After going overseas, he was promoted to Major on November 22, 1915, and appointed the DAQMG of the 3rd Canadian Division and the Canadian Corps from January 16, 1916, to May 10, 1917.

On May 11, 1917, he was promoted to brevet Lieutenant Colonel and appointed the AA&QMG of the 2nd Canadian Division. From February 7, 1918, to January 11, 1919, he served as a GSO 2 with two British divisions and an Army HQ. He graduated from Staff College in 1919.

On July 7, 1926, he was promoted to substantive Lieutenant Colonel, and on August 7, 1930, to Colonel in the Canadian Militia. In 1932 he graduated from the Imperial Defence College. He was assigned to the Militia Staff on October 1, 1934, and on the same day promoted to temporary Brigadier and made District Officer Commanding of 12 Military District in Regina.

He was still a temporary Brigadier and DOC when the Second World War broke out.
