Hello Andy, my best guess is representations. All of the backing khaki is the same material, which to me was quite a coincidence and making me think they were not period pieces. As I would have expected more variation.

The women who owned and assembled these boards was an active member of ASMIC for many years and has passed away. She was also a member of the Heraldry Society. My own feeling is these were made not to deceive but as representative examples. I will post some more photos, as the quality of the work is quite nice. Thanks to everyone for taking an interest
