Firstly, this both circle and flashes and fist and flashes were used in WW2 by the Army.

There are many colour combos including red, yellow, blue, white, khaki and brown and often the central device of different colours to the lightening.

Circles were official but Fists were not.

Domed versions were the first types and oblongs the later type and post war also.

The trades were numerous that wore them.

Royal Marines Telecommunications Technicians wore them in red and blue but with a circle.
