Just going over old posts (what else to do when you've finished work...). I have an enameled 1916 badge but can't recall if I posted a pic or not.
I'm fairly sure that at least one of my 1916 badges is white metal as it looks as if it has been "tested" on the edge with a file and it is....not brass.
There seem to be far fewer plated 1916 badges than brass examples so they must have had at least
some status/ function.
Whether we'll ever know what it is/ was is very much open to question.
