The padre of South East London Army Cadet Force - "Percy The Para Padre" wore a beret of similar construction in a similar state in the 1980s. Mind you, he still wore the Denison he said he was wearing when he jumped into Suez in 1956 (which we other officers thought was held together by the power of prayer) - so dating may not be an exact science.
