Both the cap bages & caps were smaller in the pre Great war & Great war period. I have illustrated a Great war period officer's cap badge, first post, in this thread:

The cap you have illustrated Dwayne shows much age wear & this would be typical of an officer who had a fair am't of sea time during the war & perhaps even after it.
