Ronald Okeden Alexander, DSO, was born on August 7, 1888. He became a provisional Lieutenant with the 3rd Regiment, Victoria Rifles of Canada, in Montreal, on August 28, 1908. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in the same regiment on November 30, 1908. On June 21, 1910, he became a Lieutenant in The RCR. He was promoted to Captain on March 24, 1915, and on November 1, 1916, he was made a brevet Lieutenant Colonel. From October 21, 1917, to April 1, 1919, he served as a staff officer with the 2nd Canadian Division.

From September 7, 1924, to December 31, 1927, he served as a Professor of Tactics at RMC. On September 22, 1929, he was promoted to substantive Major.

On May 4, 1935, he was promoted to Colonel and transferred to the Militia Staff. The same day he became a temporary Brigadier and District Officer Commanding of MD 7 in St. John, NB. On September 24, 1935 he was appointed the DOC of MD 4 in Montreal. His service continued until the end of the Second World War.
