The braze holes which I've seen copied are either circular or an oval/ellipse shape. I think you're certainly pretty safe with rectangular braze holes and probably OK with more squarish ones (as present on your friends badge there).

I'm really not a slider expert at all and the slider on this one isn't that nice but it doesn't worry me as the badge was worn till the late 1940's, which that slider could easily be from, its also pretty short which is in keeping with others seen a lot of Leicestershire badges. I gave it OK on the grounds of seeing nothing obviously wrong or suspicous with what is a very common badge, hope that helps.
