Not necessarily Tony. It’s not a fake. That badge definitely existed and was worn, period photos show that. What’s more a badge from this die is pictured in Wilkinson’s (1969) book and K&K.
Rather if* it is flying with fellow ducks so to speak then it’s a true restrike from an original die which has survived remarkably well sans die flaws. As such indistinguishable from a genuine badge... which makes it worse than a fake IMO.
Next deduction and concern is if it is a restrike a genuine BP&Co maker mark stamp seems to have survived with it!
