Default Date of approval August 15 2007

My notes which were taken from the Maple Leaf Vol. 11 No. 36 record that the Governor General Michaƫlle Jean approved the badge on August 15, 2007. The Branch being unique to the Naval Reserve.

First issues of the badge appear to be on October 9 2008 at a ceremony at HMCS Cabot, where Commodore Jennifer Bennett, Commander Naval Reserve, made the first presentation of the new badge, to about 40 PIDs attending a national diving exercise in the area.

The reason for the badge was given as “The creation of a separate badge for PIDs now recognizes the fact that their diving duties are greater than those of a ship’s team diver, combat diver or searchand- rescue technical diver, but a little less than those of a clearance diver.”

The associated photos appear to show that branch uses the Clearance Diver branch badge on the collar and sleeve, but with the Port Inspection Diver breast Badge.

Hope this is of interest.
