I recently acquired a photocopy of the July 1917 AM Order on Dress for the new RAF.
Under rank badges for Warrant Officers First Class it specifies for the khaki uniform then still worn "Gilding Metal Eagle and crown [worn] below the shoulder". At around the same time I bought the attached photo on Ebay which shows such a badge being worn.
Could that be what these are?
