In 1964/65 the various Commando Units were allocated 3x Sioux Helecopters
and the Unit Light Aircraft pilot was born.
These men were trained by the Army School of Aviation at Middle Wallop near Salisbury, and were awarded Army wings.
They served in, and flew in supporting, their own Commando Units until the Air Troops were amalgamated into 3rd Commando Brigade Air Squadron Royal Marines in 1968 in Singapore, and the first 3 BAS Sqn Badge was produce.
This printed badge was worn from 1969/77 and was replaced by the following badge from 1977/95 and worn on flying suits, after the Air Sqd was taken over by the Royal Navy and re-named 847 Naval Air Squadron it now has a mix of Royal Navy and Royal Marines pilots.
