West of Scotland Challange Trophy bronze shield. 1901.
Well detailed prize 2.1/4" high engraved to the rear won by L/Cpl J Martin F "Coy"
4/VBRH, at this date they were still officially 1st PRVC.
Lots of symbolism Celtic warrior; Helmeted soldier; Knights jousting; Winged Nikes: Lion Ramant of Scotland; St. Andrew and Cross. There is a very tiny inscription running around the last raised outline of the inner shield. You need a X20 eyeglass to read it much of it is abbrieviated and separated with *. bear in mind the ledge is only 1/2mm wide.

Right side ET*VIC*SEM*D*E*I*?*?*L*V*M*
