To his eternal shame, many years ago someone of my acquaintance once told an "experienced" collector that a badge that had a winged boot with wheels was for those whose "late arrival" had included some form of wheeled transport.
He knew that it was for a local roller skating club and thought that the story was
so ridiculous that NO ONE would believe it
or think it to be true in the first place.
Said "collector" must have aired this story to an educated audience....
