There are a number of photographs (of officers and ORs) wearing collar badges on their caps. In 1893 the WO authorised collar badges could be worn in the new FSC - until 'proper' cap badges arrived. Absence of the right badge was overlooked in theatre / 1st WW as it was in the 2nd WW too - and beyond.

I meant Peters coloured photo with the officer choosing to wear a collar badge facing the wrong way, rather than just wearing a collar badge which I know was not uncommon.
