When I was there in the very early sixties, the CCF paraded on Thursday afternoons. Everybody came to school in uniform on that day. The officers were all masters. The RSM doubled up as the school caretaker for the rest of the week. Some of the 'troops' carried 303 rifles. There was a rifle range on the school grounds, very close to the band room. The band consisted of drums & bugles only. There was one 'army' lorry that transported everyone around, it took the kit to summer camp.
Fortunately, I was in the scouts. There were only 50 or 60 of us in 2 troops, everyone else was doing drill in the CCF on the back 'parade' ground. We were in the Gym (in the dry!!).
We had a tough life, we all went to school on Saturday mornings & played inter-school sports on Saturday afternoons. A six day week!!
All the best,
Alan
