Yep, the first button without the loop in your photo matches the cap badge for Aberystwyth U.C., so that's my theory gone. I wonder why E. J. Martin referenced it to Bangor but not to Aber? He describes the Bangor cap badge as the cap badge of the Royal Artillery with laurel sprays replacing the motto "Ubique."
