Call me cynical but eBay are not doing this for the benefit of buyers or sellers , they are doing it for money !
"For buyers , managed payments offer a range of payment methods , such as credit and debit cards , Google Pay and PayPal. Ebay intends to offer Apple Pay as a payment method on iPhone and iPad."
Someone is going to have to pay for the service and it won't be eBay , no doubt they will offer a good deal to begin with but once they squeeze out the 'opposition' (PayPal) they can/will increase their fees.
As a buyer , PayPal works for me both on eBay and here on the forum.
